Swedish Minister for Local Government and Financial Markets Mats Odell told public service professionals from across Europe on Thursday that their authorities should step up the use of social networks like facebook and twitter. He made his comments during an address of a conference ahead of the 2009 European Public Sector Awards in Maastricht.

I think it’s silly. Public services need to be readily accessible online in user friendly formats, and social networks are not user friendly. And don’t get me started on the aggressive advertising on these commercial sites.
